See. We can do culture…

Well our luck had to run out eventually and today we had quite a bit of rain. After leaving our lodgings for the evening, we trundled down through the woods along the banks of the River Avill until we got to Mansley Combe. It made a change to start the day with a descent. However this wasn’t to last as we climbed first to Dunkery Gate and then up onto Dunkery Beacon itself. The weather by this time was quite poor and the top half of the hill was enveloped in mist. Hence no photos of that bit. We didn’t hang around too long on the top and then made for Webbers Post on the Porlock side. By the time we got there we had dropped back out of the clouds and the rain had eased off.

The walk through Horner Plantation included some very interesting sculpture and some great views back up over Horner Wood. We emerged at Horner just adjacent to the tea rooms where we stopped for a well earned rest. The sun was out now and have us the opportunity of drying out some of our wet gear.

With a short stretch to Porlock our third day was done.

Our last day tomorrow but it’s a biggie at 17.5 miles. Wish us luck!
